Petrol rises to 13.23 rand a litre and diesel 12.15 rand in the main Gauteng inland region.
According to Neil Roets, CEO of debt counselling firm Debt Rescue, the 84c a litre increase on petrol is going to make it difficult for many deeply indebted consumers to make ends meet.
“With SANRAL seeming to be hell-bent on forcing through the toll issue, this will add another R450.00 a month to the already diminished income of consumers. This together with the fuel price hike is going to have dire consequences for the majority of consumers.”
“There are so many people on the knife edge that the fuel price increase is just going to be the last straw that breaks the camel’s back,” said Roets.
